Are fish swimming in their own filth?

Yuk, no way. They would get sick.

The maximum stocking density of Atlantic Salmon in any Tasmanian farm is 15 kg per cubic metre, and most farms choose to stock at a much lower rate than this.

An animal would not thrive if swimming around in filth. Nets are kept clean to allow maximum water flow and exchange for these schooling fish. Healthy fish means more efficient farming and better fish growth.

Pens are also regularly fallowed within the lease area, that means we move the pens around. It is the same as on land farmers rotating paddocks to make sure areas get adequate recovery time and remain healthy.

Our density and footprint are low.
Keep in mind that Tasmania produces less than 2% of the worlds farmed salmon.
